One student was killed and three other teenagers were injured in a shooting Friday afternoon near a high school on Chicago’s West Side, authorities said.
The Chicago Fire Department said the four 16 year olds they were killed near the Liceo Benito Juárez in the Pilsen neighborhood. Chicago Police Department spokesman Tom Ahern said they were killed outside the school.
A spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department said the four boys were taken to the Stroger hospital. One child was pronounced dead upon arrival, another child was in critical condition and two other teenagers, a boy and a girl, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Ahern said.
Police and paramedics responded to the shooting just before 3pm.
A Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
