For fans of Neighbours – of Buren as the program is called with us – it will feel a bit strange on Monday 14 June. The Australian soap, which has been broadcasting on One for 35 years, is moving and will be broadcast on VTM 2 from then on. New episodes about the neighbors in Ramsay Street are broadcast every weekday at 5.45 pm, also during the summer months.
‘We are very happy that we are the top Neighbours from the summer in our offer as a new permanent ‘neighbour’ for storm of Love and in the fall before Home and away‘ said channel manager Kristine Willems in the press release announcing the shift.
At One they already say goodbye to the neighbors on June 8, after which VTM 2 picks up the thread with a few days in between. According to spokesman Hans Van Goethem, it was the VRT itself that decided not to renew the contract after 35 years. ‘It was a difficult decision to say goodbye to Buren, but we simply have to make choices in our programming’, says Van Goethem VRT It.
Neighbours was first broadcast in Australia on March 18, 1985 and has been shown in more than 60 countries. Several celebrities have used the program as a springboard for their further media careers, including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Natalie Imbruglia and Guy Pearce.
