JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Turkish women’s singles badminton player Neslihan Yigit withdrew from the All England 2021 event, on Thursday (18/3).
This was conveyed through a press release delivered by the Badminton World Federation or BWF.
In his explanation, Yigit is known to be on the same flight as the Indonesian Team from Turkey to the UK.
In their explanation, BWF and Badminton England clarified that the decision to undergo independent isolation for Yigit and the Indonesian Team and their entourage was made independently by the NHS Test and Trace.
“Furthermore, BWF and Badminton England have no other choice but to follow the orders of the NHS and withdraw these players from the tournament,” explained BWF in a Press release.
“This decision is in accordance with the Covid-19 terms and protocols of the UK government in force in national legislation, and is separate from the guidelines established by the BWF and Badminton England standard operating procedures for the YONEX All England Open 2021.”
BWF also sends apologies to the Indonesian Team and all Indonesian badminton fans around the world. The BWF has said it will commit to supporting all players in their period of independent isolation.
“We are very sympathetic to what happened and apologize for the inconvenience to the Indonesian team and their entourage, as well as Yigit, a player from Turkey. We make sure that we are doing the best we can, including continuing to provide a safe environment for all tournament participants. “
