One person injured in crowds at London concert venue

A woman with serious injuries died on the 17th (local time) after a crowd suddenly gathered at the entrance to a concert hall in London, England.

British police said one in three women were seriously injured in an accident outside the O2 Academy concert hall in Brixton, London on the 15th.

The woman who died was Rebecca Icumelo, 33, of Newham, London, while the other two women are still in critical condition, police said.

The incident occurred as people tried to enter the venue before a performance by Nigerian afro-pop singer Asake.

A total of eight people, including three seriously injured, were taken to hospital and two with relatively minor injuries were treated at the scene.

Asake’s show, which ran for three days in a 5,000-seat theater, was so popular that it sold out within minutes when tickets went on sale in September.

Police said there were people injured at the scene when they were called after receiving a report that “a large crowd was trying to get in without tickets”.

Upon hearing the news of the death, Asake posted on Instagram, expressing his condolences and saying he was praying for the grieving family, saying, “I am deeply saddened.”

The mayor of London Sadiq Khan said he was heartbroken by the news of the death and said: “The investigation into what happened must be concluded as soon as possible”.
