NEW YORK – One person died in a small plane crash Thursday on Long Island, according to authorities.
East Hampton Police responded to a call about the incident Springy Banks Road, by the water Three mile portaround 12:30 They found a single-engine plane with one person on board.
The pilot, identified as Kent Feuerring of Sagaponack, 57, was pronounced dead on the spot.
The Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board and the Suffolk County Coroner’s Office are responding, East Hampton officials said.
They described the incident as a “tragic accident”. Witnesses reported seeing what appeared to be a wing that broke the fuselage before the plane crashed into the water, according to East Hampton Town police.
The NTSB confirmed it was witnessing the investigation and tweeted that the incident involved a Seamax M-22.
