Two cars collided on Sørisvegen between Grong and Namsos on Saturday afternoon. Four people were involved in the incident.
There were witnesses to the accident who contacted the police.
– Fatal accident has been confirmed. Relatives have been notified. Both the accident team and the police forensic technicians are on their way to the scene. The road will be closed for the time being, it is stated in the message on Twitter.
A man in his 70s has died. He must have been alone in the car. In the other car, there were three people, who are quite young, according to police.
The incident was first reported at 15.13.
Operations Manager Rune Brandmo at the police district informs Adresseavisen just before 4.30 pm that several people have been transported by ambulance to Namsos Hospital after the accident.
He says it is too early to say anything about the extent of the damage to these people.
The accident happened in the middle between Namsos and Grong on county road 7040. There is talk of major material damage to the vehicles involved, the police say.
The collision is said to have taken place near a hilltop, confirms a photographer on the spot. The road is described as narrow, and the speed limit should be 80 kilometers per hour.
The road will be closed for some time to come.
