One of the two victims of a brutal hit-and-run that occurred yesterday dies

A 77-year-old grandfather who was run over by a van yesterday afternoon, died this Saturday in Ciudad del Este. His 33-year-old daughter, who was also run over, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The serious accident occurred yesterday, at approximately 4:20 p.m., on National Route PY 02, of this departmental capital, at Km 8 Acaray, in front of a pedestrian crossing. The victims were Teófilo Rojas Acosta, 77 years old, and his daughter, Miguelina Rojas Fernández, 33 years old, residing at Km 7 in the Ciudad Nueva neighborhood of this city.
The two victims suffered serious injuries including head trauma and multiple fractures. They were rescued by volunteer firefighters to the Trauma Hospital of this city.
This morning, at 08:30, the doctors on duty reported the death of Teófilo Rojas Acosta. The fact was communicated to the tax agent on duty, Edgar Modesto Torales Gamarra, who is in charge of the investigation.
The mishap was caused by a Toyota brand van, TOWNACE NOAH/1998 model, pearl color, year 1998, with XAT 096 plate, driven by Máximino Cabrera Ramírez, 63 years old.
