one of the first in Cuba – 2024-05-04 00:01:34

Cuban doctor Silvia Carlota Jústiz Hernández, who dedicated more than 60 years to pediatric pulmonology, died this Saturday, April 27 in the city of Santiago de Cuba.

Through their social networks, accounts from official institutions announced the death of the doctor, who dedicated her entire life to pediatrics and also trained other doctors during her career.

“With deep sadness, we announce the death of Dr. Silvia Carlota Jústiz Hernández, an eminent pediatrician and teacher of generations, with more than 60 years dedicated entirely to the noble work of saving lives,” published the provincial health directorate of Santiago de Cuba on Facebook.

According to publications on networks, there were several generations of doctors who learned from this professional, who dedicated herself to teaching classes while caring for her patients.

“Dr. Justiz left an indelible mark on each of her students and patients, especially at the Juan de la Cruz Martínez Maceira Hospital, where her spirit and dedication will continue to inspire future generations. Her memory will always last in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her and learning from her,” the Santiago de Cuba subsidiary APC page published on her behalf.

Graduated from the University of Havana, Jústiz dedicated herself to children’s medicine for six decades, after moving to Santiago de Cuba.

She earned the esteem, not only of her patients, but also of her students, by being one of the first specialists in child care after the 1959 revolution.

“He really is a Legend of Medicine and particularly of the science and art of caring for the little ones,” said one of his students, doctor José Yaser Centray Soler.

“She will never be forgotten by so many generations of professionals who graduated from the University of Santiago,” he added, in a Facebook post.
