One of the best sci-fi films of the last 30 years is available in an edition that you probably haven’t seen yet!

When I saw this film for the first time, I was immediately hooked – even though it wasn’t really for my age at the time. Oops.

There are films that simply stay in your memory. They may not be perfect, have their quirks and possible logic holes, but The overall package is just right and leaves a lasting feeling. This sci-fi film is the first that I can really remember – and somehow I always enjoy it!

Sci-Fi blockbuster that changed cinema: The effects were gigantic!

Anyone who knows the film has probably already recognized what it’s about from the first picture – of course I’m talking about “Independence Day”. As the was released in cinemas in 1996, nobody really knew what groundbreaking success this science fiction film would achieve. Directed by Roland Emmerich, a master of the disaster movie, a film was created that which is still considered a cult classic today and has had a lasting impact on the way we experience blockbusters.

  • “Independence Day” grossed over $817 million worldwide making it one of the most financially successful films of the 90s.
  • The film received the Oscar for best visual effectswhich is hardly surprising considering the special effects were groundbreaking at the time.
  • It was the movie that Will Smith established himself as an international superstar and had a decisive influence on his career in Hollywood.

Overall, “Independence Day” was not only a commercial triumph, but also a film that remains highly regarded for its innovative approach to the genre, its impressive visual effects and its stirring, rather pathetic narrative. Roland Emmerich’s masterpiece remains an unforgettable part of film history and a prime example of how a film can entertain and impress at the same time.

Why Independence Day is (and remains) a cult for me

Since I was born in 1990 and the film was released six years later and was therefore shown on free TV a year or two later, I was clearly too young when I saw the film for the first time. But The power of the images carried me away even back then. The moment when the “visitors” attack for the first time and their spaceships open – gigantic.

Fun fact: Unlike me, my sister doesn’t like the film at all. The reason: The first scene it was from the film was the one in which the captured alien in Area 51 awakens during the autopsy and sees the good Dr. Brakish grabs Okun and presses him against the window to speak through him.

If you are real fans, there is also a stylish poster in A4 format.
