One of New York’s most impressive high-rises shook, causing fear and panic among its occupants.

The people who were in the iconic New York skyscraper One Vanderbilt they suffered moments of tension when they felt a great tremor in several of the floors. The shaking was due to the failure of one of the elevators, that occurred while maintenance personnel were working in the area. The workers were evacuated and the mishap did not endanger anyone.

On Tuesday afternoon the employees of the building, located in Manhattan, just steps from the Chrysler Building, they felt a strange movement and immediately they descended and crowded onto Madison Avenue. At first, they thought it was something serious, but the situation was controlled since, fortunately, the unusual tremor had occurred in Summit, the public viewpoint that is already famous among tourists and is closed every Tuesday.

As reported by Jeremy Soffin, spokesman for the building, to The New York Post, this helped to avoid injuries. In addition, the elevator was kept closed to the public while the failures were investigated. “Early today, an outside elevator at Summit One Vanderbilt malfunctioned while mechanics performed maintenance, which caused a vibration to be felt throughout the skyscraper. Summit was closed at the time, no one was injured and there is no danger to the building or its occupants,” the spokesperson said.

In addition to protecting employees shared their experiences on social media. One of them related that the building shook from one side to the other. “I felt as if the floor fell from a height of almost two meters and continued to bounce. Several reported that they felt the same (…). It scared us a lot, ”he detailed in a Twitter post.

The Summit observation deck is located at the top of the tower and includes an outdoor terrace, from which panoramic views can be enjoyed. To access it you have to pass the glass elevators, which go up the side of the building for a better experience. Due to their size, these achieved the title of the largest in the world, since they measure eight square meters and go up to 12 floors.

Despite his short life, he One Vanderbilt is today one of the most iconic buildings from the big apple. It is located north of the Grand Central train terminal, in Midtown Manhattan, and is very popular with both locals and visitors. Admission is $39, while glass elevator tickets are $59.

The inauguration of this skyscraper was in September 2020 and, since then, it has received millions of visitors every year. Although it is not the highest in the city, it is in the Midtown Manhattan area, thanks to its 93 floors and 427 meters high.
