The governor of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, has officially announced the naming of the “Unico de la Plata” stadium after the late Argentine legend Diego Armando Maradona.
He left Maradona on the twenty-fifth of last November, after a sudden heart attack, at the age of 60, and his departure caused a great international controversy, after accusations of negligence that affected his private doctor.
According to the French newspaper “Le Parisien”, the governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kiselov, said in the presence of Argentine President Alberto Fernandez: “We decided to rename the (Unico de la Plata) stadium to Diego Armando Maradona. Diego was a unique person, he deserves to give this stadium his name. . “
Kisilov also announced the change of the name of the main stand on the stadium to (Ijandar Sabia), the former star and coach of Estudiantes, and the technical director who led the Argentine national team to the 2014 World Cup Final in Brazil.
Stade Unico de la Plata is one of the most modern and prominent stadiums in Argentina, and it was opened in 2003 with a capacity of 53,000 spectators. Estudiantes and Jimnasia de la Plata play some of their confrontations on the stadium, and Maraduan led the Jimnasia team in its last training experiences before his departure.
The Italian club Napoli, which witnessed the best experiences of Maradona in football stadiums between 1984 and 1991, officially announced the transfer of the name of its historic “San Paolo” stadium to the stadium of Diego Armando Maradona, following the departure of the Argentine legend last month.
