One month before the citizen survey: How do Salzburg residents feel about the S-Link?

The S-Link not only concerns politicians in Salzburg, but also many citizens. In just over a month – on November 10th – people in the city of Salzburg, Flachgau and Tennengau will be able to vote on whether they are for or against the mega transport project. The exact question is: “Should the state of Salzburg ensure that, in the interest of reducing traffic, the extension of the local railway to Hallein (S-LINK) is implemented as part of a mobility solution that also includes the Stiegl and trade fair/airport railways?” One There currently does not seem to be a clear trend regarding the outcome of the survey. This was also shown in an S24 opinion poll on Wednesday in the south of the city of Salzburg.

Opinions on the S-Link remain divided

After an information event in Hallein (Tennengau), one respondent explains that he is still conflicted. His generation is no longer affected by the S-Link, but rather his children and grandchildren. However, he is in favor of reducing traffic congestion. “From what I heard, there is no alternative.” Media reports about the possible risk of collapse due to the subsoil scare a woman from Salzburg. She considers the project to be an “aqueous solution”. She will vote with a clear “no” in the citizen survey. A young woman says that she is very satisfied with the public transport offering. A self-confessed public transport driver, on the other hand, is clearly in favor of the S-Link. She finds the current traffic situation in the city of Salzburg “unbearable”.

Those who spoke off camera also seemed divided. For example, while an Adneter (Tennengau) was of the opinion that the S-Link would not bring any relief for her, her companion announced that she would vote “yes”.
