At the same time, the number of users who use the Internet on a computer or tablet using a mobile Internet router has increased by 21.6%.
The regulator said that with the increase in remote work and training, the number of users who use the Internet on their mobile devices has increased by 5.2%, while the number of users who use the fixed Internet network has decreased by 1%.
PUC pointed out that last year there was a 37% increase in the number of Internet connections with a connection speed of more than 400 megabits per second, as well as the fact that users have increasingly chosen to watch television via television distribution platforms, including Go3, Shortcut. Accordingly, the number of users of terrestrial television has decreased by 16%, while the number of cable TV users has decreased by 8%.
PUC data also show that one user agreed on an average of 4 hours and 16 minutes per month last year, which is 11% more.
The number of sent text messages has decreased by 18% – to 46 text messages per month. During the emergency situation, more active communication took place between users in the territory of Latvia, which explains the increase in the number of call minutes. Meanwhile, the number of international calls on the mobile network has decreased by 4%. The decrease in the number of text messages was explained by PUC due to the fact that users are increasingly using other means of communication, such as: WhatsApp, Telegram, Skype, Zoom.
Last year, the number of international call minutes in the fixed network increased by 38%, while in the country it decreased by 12%. In the fixed network, the user has agreed on an average of 59 minutes per month.
Voice telephony service in the fixed network in Latvia is provided by 48 companies. Market leader – Ltd. Tet voice telephony service is provided by 44% of users, while SIA Latvian mobile phone – 20% of users and Ltd. Baltcom – 3%. In turn, the Internet service Ltd. Tet provides 54% of users, but SIA Baltcom a SIA Balticom a total of 27%, while 19% – other merchants.
Last year, SIA maintained its leading position in the number of mobile connections in Latvia LMT, providing 43.3% of the total number of mobile connections in Latvia, followed by SIA Tele2 with 33.3% connections and Ltd. Bite Latvia – 23,4%.
The total revenue of telecommunications operators last year amounted to 521 million euros, while the number of operators in Latvia continued to decrease. The largest operators remained unchanged last year LMT, Tele2, Bite Latvia a Tet, which accounted for 80% of the market share.
For service providers, revenue from Internet use increased by 2.6%, while revenue from television services increased by 3.7%.
