One line more than Zurich: St.Gallen stays on the cocaine throne – not even a miscalculation can stop us!

A drug report showed last week: cocaine use in St.Gallen exploded in 2021. We have left Zurich behind us by more than a nose. But after the intoxication comes the hangover.

What did we celebrate last weekend – the corks popped, the champagne flowed and one or the other line was certainly drawn – after the European Monitoring Center for Drugs published its annual report: In St.Gallen in 2021 as much cocaine was consumed as before never. The researchers have demonstrated this using residues in the wastewater. Consumption in St.Gallen has almost doubled compared to the previous year.
We beat Zurich, a long-standing direct competitor for the top Swiss ranking, which was usually a nose ahead of us, by a wide margin. Take that, Zurich!
But the hangover usually follows the intoxication. The researchers miscalculated. Instead of 1336 milligrams of cocaine residues per 1000 people, there are only 888 milligrams. Still a nice number. And when the first shock has been dealt with, we are relieved to see that we are still in second place in Europe. And still in front of Zurich.
