One killed and several wounded during shooting at church – VG

Police moved out to a church in Laguna Woods in Orange County, California, the sheriff in Orange County wrote in a Twitter message at 14 local time, which is at 23:00 Norwegian time.

An hour later, they write that four people are critically injured, and transported to hospital. One person is dead, and died on the spot. All the victims are adults, the police write.

Police have arrested one person in their 60s and seized a weapon that may have been used in the incident.

LA times writes that the fire brigade on the spot gave treatment to several victims.

Took care of the perpetrator

There were about 30 people on site during the incident, most of them in the church of Taiwanese origin.

Witnesses themselves must have taken control of the perpetrator until the police arrived.

– I think it is safe to say that if people had not intervened, it could have gone much worse, says Undersecretary Jeff Hallock in the police in Orange county.

It is not yet known if the perpetrator was part of or was known to the congregation. To NBC, sources in the police say that the suspect has an Asian background.

199 mass shootings

On Saturday, ten people were killed during a mass shooting on Jefferson Avenue in the city of Buffalo in the state of New York. An incident that is described as racistly motivated.

The website The Gun Violence Archive says that so far this year there have been 199 mass shootings in the United States, where at least four people have been killed or injured due to shooting.
