Shots were fired in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek during the night from Saturday to Sunday. One person was injured, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office reports.
“Yesterday around 11 p.m., the police services of the Brussels North zone were called to gunfire in Schaarbeek, in Doctor Elie Lambottestraat,” says public prosecutor Stefan Vandevelde. “At the scene, the emergency services found a victim who was injured in his right leg. He was taken to hospital for treatment, but his condition was not life-threatening.”
The public prosecutor’s office has ordered the first investigation orders, including the intervention of the laboratory of the federal judicial police. A medical examiner and a weapons expert were also appointed.
“It is not clear at this time whether these facts can be linked or are related to the shootings in Brussels in recent days,” the public prosecutor’s office spokesperson said. “The investigation will have to reveal this.”
It is already the fifth shooting in the capital in a week. Earlier this week, a fatal victim was killed in drug violence at the Halle Gate in the capital.
