The data are shocking: nearly 40% of German respondents in a large survey by Jewish Claims Conference, owned by age group 18 to 29, say he does not know that about six million Jews were murdered during World War II as a result of Nazi Holocaust method, says Deutsche Welle.
15%, as summarized by the website tagesschau.de, believe that the victims of the Holocaust were less than two million. 2% of all citizens in Germany also say that the Holocaust never happened.
These figures are causing strong reflection, with the backdrop of the rise of the far -right in Germany as well as recent statements by the leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) Alice Videl on “Communist Hitler” and “Socialist” Nazi Party.
The term ‘Holocaust’ is not widely ‘known’
However, the evidence also caused by the data revealed by this particular research on the familiarization of young adults with the Holocaust and Shoa.
In France, 46% of young people between 18 and 29 say they have never heard the term shoa, which is mainly used in France instead of Holocaust. In Austria no idea of the term Holocaust states that it has 14% and in Romania 15% of respondents.
In Germany the term Holocaust is unknown at about 12%, while young people in the United Kingdom, USA, Poland and Hungary are more familiar.
And even though it is often difficult to watch statistics numbers, in this case the numbers speak for themselves: one in four adults in Germany does not know the name of any concentration camp or extermination camp.
‘The Holocaust can happen again’
In terms of dissemination of anti -Semitic content denouncing the Holocaust, 42% of young people involved in the survey overall said they had seen similar content on social media and 41% in Tik Tok. There are Youtube, Facebook and X.
Lastly, another shocking finding is that in all the eight countries involved in research, the majority estimates that the Holocaust can happen again. In the US 76%, in France by 63%and in Germany by 61%.
