One in six employees suffer from burnout complaints

NO

ANNOUNCEMENTS

In 2021, almost 1.3 million Dutch employees experienced burnout problems. This equates to 17 percent and is the same number as in 2019. This is evident from the national survey on working conditions by TNO and Statistics Netherlands. In the corona year 2020, when many people worked from home, the number was lower: 1.2 million.

It’s ‘the week of work stress’ and with it, attention is drawn to the psychological fatigue among employees. According to the researchers, more than 4 out of 10 employees indicated that work-related stress measures should be taken. 37% of employees indicate that work pressure or work-related stress is the reason for their absenteeism.

Bigger risk

In 2021, employees were absent for a total of 11 million days due to work-related stress. According to occupational health and safety services and employers, pressure at work is one of the greatest risks within companies. The costs of absenteeism are around 3 billion euros a year. To address burnout complaints, companies are advised to set up a contact point, to offer more suitable work and to increase employee autonomy.
