“One Hundred Years of Solitude” – Gabriel García Márquez’s 1967 novel was named number one among the books that had the greatest impact on world literature in the last 25 years, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Barack Obama’s memoir “Dreams of My Father”, “Satanic Verses” and “Midnight’s Children” by Sir Salman Rushdie, as well as “Lolita” by Nabokov are also mentioned as the most influential.
Three writers have cited the novel as their most influential book. Rushdie’s works – by two, and the book by the President of the USA and “Lolita” by Nabokov are defined as the most influential by one writer each.
The ranking was organized by the international literary magazine Wasafiri. It includes 25 titles.
Among the poetic works selected are “North” by Seamus Heaney, “Birthday Letters” by Ted Hughes and “Collected Poems” by Allen Ginsberg.
Among the 25 literary works that have shaped world literature, two novels by Michael Ondaji, one of which is “The English Patient”, “Logic-Philosophical Treatise” by Ludwig Wittgenstein and the biography of Mao Zedong “The Private Life of Chairman Mao” have also found a place ” by Dr. Li Zhusui.
