Leipzig – A film about sea rescue has been awarded one of the main prizes at the DOK Leipzig documentary film festival. “One Hundred Four” by Jonathan Schörnig describes the rescue of 104 people from a sinking dinghy in the Mediterranean. The film received a Golden Dove in the German competition for long documentaries on Saturday evening.
In the international competition, the Swiss-Canadian filmmaker Peter Mettler was honored with a Golden Dove for “While the Green Grass Grows”. In the film diary he processes the death of his parents. Both prizes are worth 10,000 euros each.
A total of seven gold and two silver pigeons were awarded in various categories, as the festival organizers announced. There were also numerous partner awards, so that a total of 24 awards were presented at DOK Leipzig.
The traditional documentary film festival was held for the 66th time this year. According to the organizers, a total of 225 films from around 60 countries were on the program during the festival week, including 44 world premieres.
