They call it coming in with a bang. The start of the 31st season of family was immediately the swan song of actor David Cantens on Monday evening. His character Jonas smashed to death from a container that hung meters high in the air.

‘s season opener family became one for the history books in terms of suspense. In the field of drama and tragedy, especially Simon (Braam Verreth) and Jonas (David Cantens) contributed a lot. They entered the summer break fighting and picked up the thread again on Monday evening. The harbor container in which their struggle to the death was fought was suddenly lifted up and staggered. They clung to a net, but when it tore they tumbled tens of meters into the depths. Hours later Jonas was taken lifeless from the Scheldt, there is no trace of Simon for the time being.

David Cantens had already indicated last year with family wanting to stop, the screenwriters already gave him a memorable exit. “I am extremely grateful for the many special encounters within familyCantens said. “Both the writers and myself were convinced that the character Jonas should go out with a bang. Or as Neil Young sang: It’s better to burn out than to fade away.”
The tragedy will reverberate in the coming episodes. After all, it is already known that Jasmijn Van Hoof, who plays Jonas’ girlfriend Stefanie in the soap opera, also decided to stop family.
Herbert Flack as sinister Colonel
Left Cantens family in a striking way, then made sacred beast Herbert Flack made his debut in at least as remarkable a way. His Leon De Bodt turned out to be the principal behind the kidnapping of Lars (Kürt Rogiers). He and his son Raven (Aaron Blommaert) were on the trail of the colonel in the search for their (grand)father. After Lars was left for dead in the woods, Leon turned up with Lars’ mother Brigitte (Janine Bischops). The two know each other for sure, but the full story behind the dark side of the ex-colonel has not yet been uncovered. Lars, who was eventually able to flee, never wants to meet Leon again. We suspect that he will soon be faced with unpleasant surprises.
Still, the episode ended on a positive note. Hanne (Margot Hallemans) received good news in the hospital. Quinten (Maxime De Winne) regained consciousness after his heart attack. The story continues on Tuesday, although a time jump of two months is made.
