Thursday night in an Instagram post the members of One Direction said goodbye to Liam Payne, who fell from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening and lost his life.
In the post, they write that they are shocked by Liam’s death and will say more in time, when each of them is able to.
“Now we need some time to grieve and process the death of our brother we loved,” they wrote, adding that they will cherish their memories together forever.
In the post, they write that they will miss Liam terribly and love him.
One Direction’s Instagram page was last active in June 2020.
Liam Payne was 31 years old. On Wednesday afternoon local time, he fell from the third-floor balcony to the ground-floor lobby of the hotel, where he had originally arrived for Niall Horan, another former member of One Direction, for a concert in Buenos Aires. The exact circumstances of his death are still unclear, hours before the tragic incident, Payne posted cheerfully on social media, where he talked about going horse polo in the afternoon.
In 2021, he self-confessed that he struggled with alcohol and drug addiction throughout his career, and at one point was in such a bad state during one of their tours that he even had suicidal thoughts. TMZ also mentions that it was recently revealed that Payne had previously asked his ex-fiancée to abort their child or leave him, and that she had reached out to lawyers to seek a restraining order against Payne.
