An accident that occurred in a body shop in the municipality of Bayamo, in the province of Granma, ended the life of one person and left two others injured.
The incident occurred last Tuesday, February 27, but it was not until this weekend that the official media The Demajagua shared details about what happened.
According to the state press, the accident occurred when an explosion occurred in a body shop located on the highway to Holguín, in the Rosa La Bayamesa neighborhood of Bayamo.
The man who died after the incident was identified as David Salvador Santa Elena Escobar, 65 years old, who would have lost his life instantly.
The injured were citizens Yordanis Montero Núñez, 38, and Jorge Félix Aguilar Rosabal, 55, who had to be rushed to the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial Hospital.
The injured were admitted to the burn room, where they were reported in critical condition.
After a preliminary investigation, authorities determined that the incident was due to the explosion of an acetylene bullet in the body shop. At the moment, the incident continues to be investigated to determine the exact circumstances of what happened and establish responsibilities.
According to Dr. Nelson Tamayo Vázquez, who serves as head of the Burn Service of the aforementioned hospital, both injured people are receiving all the specialized care they can, although both are in a delicate condition.
The expert stressed that Yordanis Montero Núñez is the one in the worst condition, describing him as “extreme critical.”
The media did not specify why it took so long to share the news, something that was pointed out by some Internet users.
“Amazing immediacy of this news, Cuban journalism, in its purest form,” wrote one of the Facebook users sarcastically.
Others noted that the situation was nothing new, and that they had seen cases where workers put other people at risk due to their actions.
“The worst thing of all is the frequency with which these types of accidents occur. I have seen people welding in the rain, a few meters from children in class, in the middle of a public road, behind a service center, on top of an iron cart, in front of a market and even on top of the railway track. Condolences to the family and a speedy recovery to the injured,” indicated one of these Internet users.
