At least one woman died and several other people were injured, some of them in critical condition, in the attack launched this Tuesday by Israel against the southern suburbs of Beirut known as the Dahyean important stronghold of the Shiite group Hezbollahreported the Lebanese National News Agency (ANN).
“Several wounded people were taken” to at least three hospitals in the Lebanese capital, and ambulances and fire trucks have headed to the area of Haret Hreikaccording to the agency.
The action was carried out by an unmanned aircraft that launched three rockets against the building called Al Rabiaa, “which was the target of the hostile bombardment in the vicinity of Bahman Hospital,” according to the source.
According to ANN, the building “collapsed”, but no further details were given about the objectives of this Israeli action.
Shortly after the explosion, the Israeli army confirmed that it had bombed Beirut in an operation targeting “the commander responsible for the murder of children in Majdal Shams,” a reference to the attack attributed to Hezbollah on Saturday in that Druze city in the Golan Heights occupied by Israel, in which 12 children were killed.
A Lebanese security source who requested anonymity confirmed to EFE that an explosion shook the southern suburbs of Beirut known as Dahye, an important bastion of Hezbollah, while another source close to the Shiite group said the target was a residential building.
“There are no changes in the directives of the central command”an Israeli military statement said about the attack in the Lebanese capital.
Israel has vowed to respond “harshly” to the rocket attack, which struck a football pitch where children and teenagers were playing, killing 12 children, all aged between 10 and 16.
The international community, especially the United States, is mediating to ensure that the response is contained and does not lead to open war on the border between Israel and Lebanon, which is experiencing its highest peak of tension since 2006, when the Israeli army and Hezbollah fought a war.
The border between Israel and Lebanon has been the scene of an exchange of fire since October, which has claimed the lives of more than 560 people.most of them on the Lebanese side and in the ranks of Hezbollah. EFE (I)
