As the police reported, a 22-year-old driver tried to overtake a bus in front of him in a long right-hand bend. As he swerved into the oncoming lane, he collided head-on with an oncoming car. There were four local women in the car, aged between 52 and 61.
The Red Cross was at the scene of the accident with a large contingent of five vehicle crews and three emergency doctors, and three general practitioners also took part in providing initial care to the accident victims. All vehicle occupants were taken to the accident hospital and the Salzburg University Hospital and one person was taken to the Kardinal-Schwarzenberg-Klinikum in Schwarzach im Pongau with the Martin 1 rescue helicopter. The 61-year-old’s injuries – she was a passenger in the car – were so severe that she died after being taken to hospital.
An alcohol test on the driver of the accident showed 0.0 per mille.
