One cover is erased, the others are like new – News from Burgas

One pad – erased, the others – like new

It is not unusual for a driver to suddenly notice strange things after changing the brake pads. Already after 5,000 km of mileage, one of the linings is worn almost to the steel plate. And all the others are normally worn. Why this happens, we tell you now.

This problem comes to light with an unpleasant creaking and rattling. This causes understandable confusion for the driver as the brake system has only recently been serviced. Yes, and outwardly everything looks normal. But on closer inspection, it turns out that one pad, which is most often on the inside of the disc, needs to be changed urgently. However, just going to the store and buying new parts is not enough. It is necessary to find the cause of this problem.

In fact, there could be several reasons. Say, badly lubricated and therefore stuck brake caliper guides. This most often leads to heavy wear. But if they are fine, you need to check the serviceability of the brake piston. As a rule, it breaks when the small sealing rubber that protects this same piston from external influences breaks. Dirt and water begin to get under it, stimulating corrosive processes.

As a result, the mechanism starts to not retract after stopping and the pad stays pressed against the disc for much of the time, only occasionally moving away from it due to the vibrations.

Also, few people pay attention to the guides of the pads themselves. And there is a nuance. Many cars use metal plates that attach the pads and they slide effortlessly over them. But

sometimes it is these guides that cause one pad not to move well.

When there is clearance between the guide and the pad, dirt flying from the road falls into the “grooves”.

As a result: the consumable “freezes” in one position. It is clear that most often this happens from within. Because it is this pad that is subjected to the most pollution. Especially if there are no defenses. What to do in this case? It is necessary to disassemble the brake mechanism, clean it of dirt and rust and replace the “springs”.
