Will this be enough to save the hundreds of farms hit by the freezing episodes of recent weeks?
This Saturday, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the launch of an exceptional solidarity fund amounting to one billion euros for farmers, wine growers or arborists in need.
On the occasion of a trip to the Hérault, Jean Castex estimated that “the state must be up to this catastrophe”.
Among the emergency measures that should see the light of day in the coming days: partial activity, relief from property taxes on unbuilt land or exemption from social charges.
In the Rhône, and in particular Beaujolais, as well as in the rest of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the losses were catastrophic. All the more so as winegrowers are neither concerned nor covered by the agricultural calamities regime. The Region had released an envelope of 15 million euros, while its president Laurent Wauquiez admitted that it did not “will not be enough” to save all the professionals who lost their crops.
