Copacabana was full long before Madonna’s concert
A brit lap article according to the beach section was already full of people long before the start of the concert, there were those who camped on the spot days before the start, so that they would be able to see the event from a good place. The windows of the apartments overlooking the concert were full of people, the streets were filled for blocks,
and the wealthy followed the event from ships anchored near the coast.
As the air warmed well above 30 degrees during the day, the firefighters thoroughly watered the area to alleviate the suffocating heat, which even when the concert started at 10:45 in the evening meant a temperature of 27 degrees for the million-strong crowd. The authorities also distributed free drinking water during the concert to avoid a repeat of last year’s disaster, when a young fan died due to the heat at a Taylor Swift concert.
The event was secured by three thousand police officers, and the Rio municipality spent 3.1 million pounds to make the event safe. According to economists’ estimates
the concert brought an extra £47 million to the city.
The event lasted more than two hours, and in addition to Madonna, several young Brazilian musical talents, including Anitta and Pabllo Vittar, performed.
