The Casa Rosada confirmed to Page 12 that this Saturday there will be a new flight to Moscow. As is often the case, the Aerolineas Argentinas plane will return on Tuesday, which will add about a million and a half vaccines because on Sunday 964,000 doses of Oxford / AstraZéneca arrive on a KLM flight. Such a quantity opens the doors for the vaccination of Argentines aged 60 to 69 years to be launched more intensively. This newspaper also collected the version that a million doses of Sinopharm are coming before the end of the month and another 900,000 from Oxford / AstraZéneca from the United States. The latter are those with the active element manufactured in Argentina.
The panorama is as follows:
* The flight to Moscow leaves on Saturday, after long negotiations by Minister Carla Vizzotti and presidential adviser Cecilia Nicolini. It is public and notorious that you never know the exact amount that comes and the proportion of dose 1 and dose 2 that in Sputnik V are different. It is clear that more than dose 1 will come because the goal is to vaccinate as many people as possible.
* On Sunday at 6 in the morning the 964,000 doses of Oxford/AstraZéneca of the Covax program (see separate). In the government they affirm that there are promises that more shipments will arrive: in total 9 million vaccines were bought and paid for and the WHO program sent just over 1,200,000.
* Due to a personal management of Alberto Fernández with the Chinese president, Xi Jinping would unlock a million doses of Sinopharm. The commitment is that these vaccines arrive before the end of the month. Another million is pending.
* In the USA there are 900,000 doses of Oxford / AstraZéneca whose active element was manufactured in Garín, Province of Buenos Aires, in Hugo Sigman’s mAbxience laboratory. They are in the last phase of quality control. They are expected to arrive in the very short term. There are voices that point out that these vaccines are prevented from leaving the USA – there is a ban on exporting any vaccine – but in the laboratory they assure that it is not true and that the delay is due to quality controls.
* There is an arrangement with the North American government, whose delegate had lunch with Fernández on Wednesday, to allow Argentina to buy doses of Oxford / AstraZéneca that are in US warehouses without being applied. The US FDA has not yet authorized this vaccine. Joe Biden’s delegate promised a short-term response.
* 3,500,000 doses of Oxford / AstraZéneca would come in May, but they are being finished in Mexico. They are part of the joint manufacturing project and the active element produced by the mAbxience laboratory, and more than 30 million doses have been sent.
* As this newspaper has already pointed out, the government is exploring opportunities with vaccines from Cuba and India, in addition to extending the purchase of Sinopharm.
With the million and a half vaccines that arrive in the next few days, the country has the chance to advance towards the almost eight million citizens vaccinated with at least one dose.
