Vaccinated international travelers will be welcome back in New Zealand from April 30, 2022, Minister Hipkins has announced. Since March last year, the border has been closed to almost everyone, except for residents of the country itself, due to the corona pandemic. They had to stay in a quarantine hotel for two weeks after arrival. Under the new rules, travelers must be quarantined at home or in another residence for seven days.
Vaccinated New Zealanders and visa holders living in Australia will be allowed to travel to the country from January 16 under the relaxed rules. From 13 February, this will apply to New Zealanders and visa holders from all other countries.
International travelers are therefore no longer obliged to stay in a quarantine hotel after arrival in New Zealand, but other measures will take their place; such as a negative corona test before departure, a vaccination certificate, a test on arrival and therefore seven days in quarantine at home.
Out of a population of 5 million, New Zealand has reported more than 10,000 infections and 40 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
