Singer Ondřej Ruml (41) is one of the few who perfectly imitates Karel Gott’s voice. That’s why he couldn’t miss the presentation of Karel Gott’s new audiobook, which is narrated by artificial intelligence. And although the singer has been trying to woo Karel Gott since he was twenty years old, there are those who don’t like his “imitation”. Ondřej said in an interview for eXtra that he doesn’t care about haters. But he responded to one ugly comment.
Ondrej Ruml portrayed Karla Gotta in the series Iveta. He had already sung his songs before, where there is only a slight difference from the original, because Ondřej has the voice of the divine Káji really strained. However, the internet is a powerful tool these days and it gives space to bad things. Ruml, like Karel Gott, did not have it easy, people wrote him bad things, which he was reconciled to even before he nodded to the offer to join the series. However, the singer did not give up.
People can be mean
“Internet discussions are basically just about shit. This wouldn’t be a proper discussion if there weren’t some hecklers. Even when I was considering the offer, I had to accept that these things would happen. And it doesn’t really bother me at all. But there was one comment that I read that, paradoxically, was not at all related to my portrayal of that Karl. It was about something else and it was a lie. I had to respond to that one, because when something is outright a lie and someone invents something with the aim of harming the other person, I think that people should speak up and calmly consider legal action. So I responded, after which the person deleted it. I am not afraid of these things,” Ondřej said nicely to eXtra.cz.
Artificial intelligence belongs without objection to our future. But how does Ondřej perceive it as a singer? There is a danger that intelligence could over time replace the voices of even singers. “Like this idea is offered, but I don’t want to worry about it. It seems to me that it’s pointless to think about it now, because if something like that were to happen, I won’t do anything about it anyway. I rather believe in the human factor, which is non-transferable,” Ruml spoke about the risk of artificial intelligence.
A cute memory
At the end of the interview, the singer recalled the meeting with Karl Gott, which stuck in his memory forever. In this case, he used his abilities and showed us his imitation. “Probably the most beautiful memory is when I came to Ostrava, where there was an event where we both performed. And I was staying at the hotel, and when I went down the stairs, Karel and Ivana were standing at the reception and Karel said to me: ‘Pocem, are you staying here too? And will you sing?’ and I will be And he said: ‘So Ivan, I’m going home’.” recounted Ondřej.
