Adam Ondra will fight for a bronze medal in bouldering and difficulty climbing at the European Sport Climbing Championships. In his favorite discipline, he advanced to the afternoon final from second place in the semi-final.
The sixth man of the Olympic race Ondra managed 43 steps in the semi-final on the wall at Königspatz, as did the other two competitors. Only the Austrian Jakob Schubert, who reached the 46th hold, got higher.
German Alexander Megos, with whom Ondra shared the lead in qualifying, moved up from fifth place.
In the semi-finals, the hopes of advancing to the final eight of the second Czech representative Martin Stráník, who recorded a score of 36+ and finished tenth, ended.
Eliška Adamovská also awaits the second final in Munich. The sixth woman from Saturday’s rope competition qualified for the battles for precious metals in bouldering from fifth place, when she conquered two boulders out of four in the semi-finals and reached at least the zone on the other two.
Twenty-one-year-old Adamovská overcame the first of the semi-final obstacles on the first attempt, but she was unable to solve the other two problems until she reached the top. On the second, she at least got into the zone on the ninth attempt, on the third on the second attempt. She reached the top again only on the last boulder, which she conquered for the second time.
Slovenian star Janja Garnbretová advanced from first place to the six-person final. The sovereign winner of Saturday’s difficulty was the only one who mastered all four obstacles, and she was the only female climber to conquer the second boulder, even on the first attempt.
The bouldering final is on the program from 4:00 p.m., while the difficulty climbing will culminate in the final race at 5:30 p.m.
