CASTELLO. Onda reinforces its commitment to sustainability and recycling with the placement of a new heart for the collection of used caps. The new container is surrounded by various pieces of urban furniture made with the caps collected from the other hearts placed in the municipality.
Several have been collected “hundreds of kilos of plugs” in the hearts located at different points of Onda. Among the new creations made thanks to these donations, the set of chairs that has recently arrived at the Manolo Safont Tile Museum to be used in its workshops, guided tours and conferences stands out.
The new heart located on Moncofar street joins those already placed on Serra d’Espadà avenue, Plaza de España, Artesa, Panderola park and Salvador Barri street, behind the Town Hall. The collection campaign is part of the municipal strategy for compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the 2030 Agenda. The donation and collection of caps allows us to reduce the amount of non-organic waste and is used to manufacture new street furniture with the free contributions from neighbors.
In this regard, the councilor for the Sustainable and Healthy City, Paco Pastorvalues ”the great awareness of Ondense about sustainability and the need to recycle their waste is a source of pride.” “They have participated en masse in this initiative, so we have seen that it was necessary to place a new heart, so that more people can come to donate their used caps”, he adds.
Recycling machine in the Municipal Market
Recently, the Onda City Council has placed a ‘Reciclos’ machine in the Municipal Market to promote the recycling of cans and plastic bottles through a Return and Reward (SDR) system, which gives its users points for raffles. It is a pilot project, so there are still no plans to place more machines in other parts of the municipality.
