More than 500 Disney heroes and characters, from Mickey to Elsa to Captain Hook, come back to life in a short film in the form of a love letter to the famous animation studio, which celebrated its centenary yesterday in a turbulent climate. The Disney+ platform provides this funny and poignant tape, titled Once Upon a Studio, four months after it was shown at the French Annecy Festival, where it was met with great acclaim. The nine-minute work mixes digital images, hand drawings and real footage.
The film, which took two years to complete, appears in 543 characters from 85 long and short films, emerging from paintings displayed in the corridors of the group’s American headquarters, where they gather to take a family photo after the departure of the employees.
The co-director of this artistic and technological achievement, Trent Currie, said that working on this film was “like assembling the parts of the largest puzzle” of his life. For this purpose, Corey hired more than 100 people, in addition to former animators, and 40 actors who returned to work specifically for this occasion.
