MADRID, 14 (SERVIMEDIA)
The ONCE coupon for Monday, October 16, pays tribute to Carmen Sevilla, its ‘great lady’, on the date on which the popular presenter, actress and singer would have turned 93 years old. ONCE wants to dedicate this coupon to the person who for years was the image of ‘Telecoupon’ “and knew how to carry the ONCE coupon close to her heart.”
The organization highlighted that María del Carmen García Galisteo, Carmen Sevilla, was a multifaceted woman who will be remembered for her films and her songs, “but the general public already has a place in their hearts for those who entered their homes every night to bring them the illusion of the ONCE coupon.”
“And she did it in a special way, with her Andalusian accent and grace that dazzled the audience from 1991 to 1997, announcing the award-winning ‘couponcito’ number – as she said -, while she told funny anecdotes and staged blunders, which often they were not such,” he adds.
Prior to her time as host of ‘Telecupón’ on Tele5, Carmen Sevilla triumphed in the cinema, with more than 70 films, sharing scenes with actors such as Jorge Negrete in ‘Jalisco canta en Sevilla’ (1949). Also notable from her film career are titles such as ‘Tales of the Alhambra’ (1950), ‘The San Sulpicio Sister’ (1952), ‘Imperial Violets’, with Luis Mariano (1952), ‘La pícara molinera’ (1954), ‘ The Taming of the Shrew’ (1956), ‘Revenge’ (1958), the first Spanish film nominated for an Oscar in 1959 for Best Foreign Language Film; or ‘King of Kings’ (1961) in which she played the role of Mary Magdalene.
16 RECORDS AND TELEVISION
In the world of music, Carmen Sevilla published 16 albums in the copla, bolero, tango, and chotis genres.
Her television career, which she arrived at after leaving the cinema, led her, in addition to presenting ‘Telecupón’, to host various variety programs such as ‘Se finá la siesta’, from 1992; ‘Give yourself a break’ and ‘Tomorrow they will be stars’ (1993) and ‘La noche de Carmen’, from 1998.
In 2003, Spanish Television hired her to present the ‘Chimes at the end of the year’; and the following year, on the same network, she began to present ‘Cine de barrio’, until 2010.
Married to the composer Augusto Algueró, with whom she had a son, she divorced him in 1974. Shortly after, she began a courtship with the film businessman Vicente Patuel, whom she married in 1985. The presenter, actress and singer died on last June 27th.
