This morning is the busiest morning rush hour of the year so far. There is more than 1,100 kilometers of traffic jams. It is especially busy in the center and south of the country. It is the second consecutive Tuesday on which the crowd record has been broken.
Due to the rain, cars on the road need more space and drive more slowly. There have also been several accidents and work is underway on the A7 in Groningen.
According to the ANWB, it is always busy on the road on Tuesday, because many people then go to work. This also applies to Thursdays.
A week ago, rain, snow and many accidents caused almost 1,100 kilometers of traffic jams on Dutch roads. The biggest problems then occurred around Utrecht and on the major highways in South Holland and Brabant.
Although the year has only just begun, this morning rush hour is already busier than the record rush hours of recent years.
The record of 2020 was set in November of that year, when there were 940 kilometers of traffic jams on Dutch roads. Also in 2022, the busiest morning rush hour did not occur until November.
