This is the 30th time that the settlements compete for the most flowery title. The country’s most prestigious and popular environmental beautification competition, Virágos Magyarország, is once again waiting for applications from municipalities from May 2. This year, in addition to sustainability and environmental beautification, community building also plays a prominent role.
In 2023, the organizing committee of the Flowering Hungary competition and the Hungarian Tourist Agency will announce their environmental beautification competition for the 30th time, for which until June 15 they are waiting for applications from local communities.
The 30th anniversary is an important milestone in the life of the competition, which is constantly renewing itself and moves more and more municipalities and professional organizations every year. Not only will the initiative be given a jubilee look, but a celebratory publication covering the history of the competition will also be prepared, and a jubilee award will also be presented this autumn. Furthermore – with the cooperation of the Association of Hungarian Dészfaiskolasok Egyesület – this year, each applicant settlement will be enriched with a commemorative plaque and tree sapling.
„Virágos Hungary is a real success story, which speaks at the same time about attention and care for our environment, as well as the power of communities“, he said Marcsi Borbás, the main patron of the competition. “Our movement is constantly renewing itself, and sustainability plays an increasingly important role in the tenders every year, and we are trying to express this with our new thematic awards this year.” he added.
This year, the Green Innovation of the Year award will be awarded for the first time, drawing attention to the importance of sustainability. In the jubilee year, you can apply for the renewed Blooming Community award with local flower-making and environmental beautification competitions. It is also a novelty that they are looking for the year’s flowery city or village walk, with which they also strengthen the tourism face of the environmental beautification competition. Nominations for this award can be made with sightseeing programs that direct visitors’ attention to historic gardens and notable trees associated with settlements. In addition, the year’s row of trees and nursery garden, as well as the most flowery main square, will continue to be awarded.
In 2023, the competition will be announced again in five traditional settlement categories – from small villages to large cities to capital districts – while Hungarian-inhabited settlements across the border can enter their green public spaces for the fourth time. This year, the organizing committee once again places great emphasis on personal visits to the settlements, learning about the results achieved on site, as well as professional exchange of ideas and advice, which the settlements regularly enjoy – read the announcement published on the viragosmagyarorszag.hu website.
