The snow surprised some people in Offenbach on Wednesday. After the sudden onset of winter, spring is about to pick up speed.
Offenbach – The week started turbulently on Monday (March 13): On Storm low moved over Hesse and caused numerous fire brigade operations. It’s going to be uncomfortable on Wednesday too. In the morning, many people in Hesse were surprised by the snow. In the Main-Kinzig district, there were therefore several ice accidents.
Between Wächterbach and Neuwirtheim, about two vehicles collided head-on. Another car crashed into the parked car of a first responder shortly afterwards. Accidents also occurred near Biebergemünd and between Eckardroth and Katholisch-Willenroth.
But after the sudden snowfall in Offenbach and the region, the weather conditions changed again at the end of the week.
Weather in Offenbach: High brings warm air masses and causes temperatures to rise
“Snow in March is really not uncommon. That can also happen again in April,” warns qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung von wetter.net. In the further course of the week, however, the white splendor is no longer to be feared, because the high “Jeanine” is approaching Germany. “This high brings us a calming of the weather on Thursday and Friday,” explains Jung. It is also towing mild air masses from south-west Europe. “Then it will be much warmer,” says the weather expert.
According to the German Weather Service (DWD), on Thursday (March 16) the temperatures in Offenbach were still -2 degrees in the morning and climbed up to 13 degrees during the day. According to the weather forecast, it will be even milder for Friday (March 17). The maximum values are between 16 and 19 degrees. Temperatures will behave similarly on Saturday (March 18). The values are between 7 and 18 degrees. “Spring is slowly getting going here in Germany,” says Dominik Jung.
Second half of March could be significantly warmer, according to forecasts
After the brief onset of winter in some parts of the country, there is now a turnaround in the second half of March. As the 14-day trend shows, the second half of the month could be significantly warmer than the first, reports wetter.net. There will hardly be another surprise, because nothing will happen in the coming weeks with regard to the weather. “Simply calm, typical March weather is indicated for the second half of the month,” says Dominik Jung.
A look into April already indicates similar weather. According to the US weather service NOAA and its CFS, April 2023 should be around 1 to 2 degrees warmer than the new climate mean for the years 1991 to 2020.
