The popularizer Poisson Fécond tells, in his last video, why the city of New York was still called Angoulême in the 16th century. A fascinating anecdote.

What do American stars Jennifer Lopez, Jay-Z and Timothée Chalamet have in common? All three were born in Angoulême. More exactly in a city which could have to be called Angoulême, today better known under the name of… New York. Astonishing and relatively little known, this anecdote is told by the creator Poisson Fécond in his last video. In the 16th century, when the Florentine navigator Giovanni da Verrazzano reached a large bay on the North American coast surrounded by a strip of land, he indeed named them temporarily “Baie Sainte-Marguerite and land of Angoulesme”, in homage to the king and count of Angoulême François Ier, sponsor of his expedition… We let you watch the rest of the video to know the outcome of this story.
