On World Cancer Day, DPR asks for health services for patients not to be disturbed

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Azis Syamsuddin asked that health services for cancer patients should not be disturbed by the handling of Covid-19 patients.

Azis said health services for cancer patients should not be disrupted, because patients need intensive care and medication.

“The Ministry of Health must make every effort to provide services to patients suffering from cancer, as well as ensure the need for drugs, treatment equipment, and health workers who treat cancer in adequate quantity and quality,” said Azis, in a written statement, Friday (5 / 1/2021).

This was conveyed by Azis in commemoration of World Cancer Day which falls on Thursday (4/1/2021).

Azis also encouraged the Ministry of Health, hospitals and other institutions to provide support in controlling cancer in Indonesia.

Some efforts that can be done, said Azis, are improving cancer diagnosis and treatment facilities so that people with cancer can be detected early.

The Golkar Party politician also appealed to the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle such as not smoking and being diligent in physical activities to minimize the risk of getting cancer.

“The Ministry of Health must educate and disseminate public knowledge about the dangers of cancer, as well as the impact and importance of cancer control efforts,” he said.

World Cancer Day is celebrated on February 4, 2000 at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris.

The Paris Charter aims to promote research, prevent cancer, improve patient care and awareness and mobilize the global community to make progress against cancer.

Since then, World Cancer Day growing into a positive movement for everyone to unite in one voice to face one of the greatest challenges in history.
