PARIS 2024 JO – While the excitement of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has barely faded, the French capital is getting ready to vibrate, once again, with the launch of the Paralympic Games. For the first time in history, France is hosting these Games, and Paris has decided to mark the event with a colorful opening ceremony, scheduled for this Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will take place in the prestigious setting of the Champs-Élysées and the Place de la Concorde. This decision to leave the traditional stadiums to invest in the emblematic places of the capital is in line with the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, which was held on the Seine.

And as with the Paris 2024 Olympics, you can follow this unique event from your TV screen, which will kick off eleven days of intense competition. Here’s everything you need to know to make sure you don’t miss a thing about this historic event.

What time does the opening ceremony start?

The show, titled “Paradox”featuring 4,400 para-athletes from 168 delegations, will start at 8:00 p.m. and should end around 11:15 p.m. Nearly 50,000 spectators are expected, divided between paying stands and free areas. As for those planning to follow it live on television, the broadcast will start at 7:40 p.m. on France 2, with an 8 p.m. news bulletin brought forward for the occasion.

On which channels can you watch the ceremony live?

Viewers will be able to follow the opening ceremony live on France 2 and Eurosport 1. France 2 will begin its coverage at 7:40 p.m., after the Paralympic torch relay, with commentary on the event by: Daphné Bürki, director “styling and costumes” of the four Paris 2024 ceremonies, and Alexandre Boyon. Journalist Guillaume Di Grazia and historian Éric Monnin will present the ceremony on Eurosport from 8 p.m. The live broadcasts will end at the same time as the ceremony.

These broadcasts will allow everyone to immerse themselves in the event, whether to admire the artistic performances or to follow the parade of athletes, while enjoying live commentary and analysis.

What is the program for the opening ceremony?

The show, titled “Paradox”will feature 4,400 para-athletes from 168 delegations. The scenography designed by Thomas Jolly, the artistic director of the Paris Games, says it wants to highlight “all bodies”with a choreography developed by the Swede Alexander Ekman.

With this show, which carries messages about the inclusion of people with disabilities, the choreographer hopes to ” to instruct, to make think” and “to make see things from a new perspective”he told theAFP.

The music is once again by Victor Le Masne, composer of the anthem for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He composed a score “a little more minimal, a little more naked” than for the Olympic Games, with however “lots of drums, lots of keyboards, lots of diversity” he assures theAFP.

Daphné Bürki has recruited French designer Louis Gabriel Nouchi, the creator of inclusive and sensual fashion, to create some 700 outfits. He promises to Release and “very colorful painting”.
