Today, Tuesday, Iranian and Saudi media revealed that Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdullahian, will meet in Beijing, the day after tomorrow, Thursday.

The media indicated that this meeting comes within the framework of efforts to “activate the content of the agreement to resume relations, which was announced last month, to arrange the exchange of ambassadors of the two countries, and to reopen the consulates.”

She explained that “the Beijing meeting was preceded by 3 contacts between the Saudi foreign minister and his Iranian counterpart, which included the next steps to implement the agreement, procedures for reopening missions and activating previous agreements.”

She pointed out that choosing China as the venue for the meeting between the Saudi foreign minister and his Iranian counterpart “is an extension of Beijing’s positive role in reaching the agreement and facilitating communication between the two countries.”

Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed, under Chinese auspices, to resume their diplomatic relations, which were severed 7 years ago. The two countries and China announced, in a joint statement, on the tenth of last March, that the agreement would be implemented within 60 days.

According to what Saudi Arabia and Iran announced, the Saudi foreign minister and his Iranian counterpart intend to meet before the end of Ramadan to implement a bilateral reconciliation agreement.

The Saudi and Iranian ministers held phone talks two days ago, and agreed to “hold a bilateral meeting between them during the current month of Ramadan,” according to official news.

A week ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a call to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, expressed his country’s readiness to continue supporting the Saudi-Iranian dialogue.

For his part, the Saudi Crown Prince expressed the Kingdom’s appreciation for the Chinese initiative to support efforts to develop good-neighborly relations between the Kingdom and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In turn, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, earlier, that “the government has proven its willingness to utilize regional opportunities and capabilities in order to promote comprehensive peace and stability through the agreement with Saudi Arabia.”
