On the website of the film “Land That Sings” you will be able to find out the tradition of the Song Festival / Article

Maris Martinson, the film’s director, said of the creation of the film’s website: “Today, cinema cannot exist in isolation, only on screen. “It’s especially important because it’s a historical film – there’s a lot of material that can’t be included in the script, but it’s important to pass this information on to viewers. It’s interesting from both a historical and a creative perspective.”

The website will regularly publish podcast talks, various publications, photos, videos and other materials related to the film and the festival itself.

The upcoming historical feature film “Land that Sings” will reveal untold stories about the first Latvian General Song Festival in 1873. At that time, the representatives of the Riga Latvian Society House and the other organizers involved had no idea that the holiday tradition could continue and exist after 150 years. “Land that sings” will be a story about freedom, the power of song, self-confidence, tradition and unique people in our history, revealing the facts and events that were the germs of the formation of the Latvian state.

The second stage of filming will begin on February 11, but on January 11, the circle of Riga’s boulevards around the Freedom Monument was filmed for the needs of the film. The event also marked the opening of the film’s website, with the Riga Dome Choir School’s mixed choir performing the song “Rīga dimd!”.

The premiere of the film in the largest Latvian cinemas is planned for the spring of 2023, singing the anniversary song festival planned for the summer. The film is made with the support of the Latvian National Film Center.
