On the way with the Baron: the 800-kilometer hike from Tartu to Dundaga is over

On September 20, a march of contemporary Barons from Tartu to Dundaga, inspired by the Imants Ziedonis Museum, ended with a concert on the stage of Dundaga Castle Park. After completing the journey, each modern Baron has the task to write his vision of modern Latvia. These stories will be summarized in the digital book “Middle”. The digital book together with the exhibition created in the project will be available at the National Library of Latvia starting from October 30. During the march, a documentary film was made under the direction of students Jānis Rēdlihs, Jānis Holstein and students of the School of Business, Arts and Technology “RISEBA”, which will reach the audience in 2021.

“This path is a cultural phenomenon and an example of cultural experience, when in 31 days representatives of various industries travel and jointly list a book about modern Latvia. We all get closer at that moment. Initially there were about 65 modern Barons, in the end there were more We also experienced various “Ziedoniskas loops” along the way, and now this road is already more than 800 kilometers long. says Zanonis Museum director Žanete Grende, who was with all the modern Barons all the way along.

Inspired by one of the first geography books in the Baltic region “Description of Our Fatherland and some appendices in brief”, a hiking trail dedicated to the Baron was created. The road was divided into several stages, and each modern Baron made part of the route. The portal “Tourist Guide” also went on this adventure, hiking on the route Plāņi-Bilska (read more to). Today’s Barons also included representatives of the cultural industry, teachers, researchers, museologists and business people from Latvia and Estonia, President Egils Levits. The descendants of the Krišjānis Barons family, the Krišjānis Barons Museum and the 101-year-old young folk song expert Elvīra Baldiņa also took part in the trip.
