Whether it’s a cooking course for climate-friendly menus, a tour with Stadtgrün Winterthur or an interactive tour through the exhibition “World out of den Fugen” in the Kunst Museum Winterthur: the program of this year’s climate week illuminates the topic from different perspectives and offers the population exciting insights into the measures of the city of Winterthur to protect the climate and adapt to changing climatic conditions.
Fifteen events all about the climate
Many questions about overcoming the climate crisis are currently being asked and are occupying the city administration and the population. What contribution can solar energy make? Which heating systems are suitable for reducing the CO2 emissions of properties?
The climate week offers the opportunity to find answers to these questions and to discuss upcoming challenges with experts. You can even do this with government councilor Jacqueline Fehr, city councilor Katrin Cometta and the members of the citizens’ panel at the climate café on the subject of nutrition.
Future plans and new developments can also be discovered. You can find out where the new Veloschnellroute 4 will run or how the “sponge city” concept can help to cool down during hot periods.
Winterthur does climate protection
On November 28, 2021, the people of Winterthur spoke out clearly in favor of the climate target of “net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040”. By 2040, the city of Winterthur should not emit more greenhouse gases than can be absorbed by natural and technical storage.
In order to achieve this ambitious goal, CO 2 savings are required in energy supply, mobility, in the local economy, in housing, construction and also in our consumption and leisure behavior.
The city of Winterthur invites all Winterthur residents to gather information during the climate week and to take part in the current climate debate. Because in order to achieve “net zero 2040”, the population is needed to promote climate protection in the city of Winterthur together with the city authorities, private companies, clubs and associations.
