On the front in Eastern Ukraine, blood is being shed, the battle is for every meter

“The situation on the front line in eastern Ukraine, especially in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, remains extremely difficult,” acknowledged President Volodymyr Zelensky, quoted by AFP.

In his traditional evening video address, Zelensky said that “this is literally a battle for every meter of Ukrainian land.”

The fighting in Ukraine is very fierce, with the fighting for the town of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region being particularly bloody. Against this background, representatives of the Ukrainian authorities and Western countries are warning that Russia is preparing a major offensive around the first anniversary of its invasion of the neighboring country.

In his address, Zelensky called for speeding up the delivery of military aid to Ukraine, DPA reported.

“We see that the Kremlin is trying to squeeze out of Russia all its potential for aggression. They are in a hurry because they know that the world is ultimately stronger, but it needs time to use its power,” the Ukrainian president said .

Although the Russian armed forces have been trying to capture Bakhmut for months, are not stopping their attacks and both sides in the conflict are suffering heavy losses, the front lines from Kharkiv in the northeast to Kherson in the south remain relatively stable, said today in Brussels the chairman of the Council of Chief- the headquarters of the US Armed Forces General Mark Milley, quoted by DPA and BTA.

The top US military official said there were no “fancy maneuvers” around Bahmut.

“There are frontal attacks, a lot of artillery, with extremely high levels of losses especially in this area,” he noted and specified that Russia is giving particularly high casualties.
