The Paris Council will discuss in March the signing of a charter authorizing operators to launch 5G, in return for commitments. But what about other cities? Here are some examples.
What is 5G?
The fifth generation of mobile telephony, launched last November. Orange, SFR, Free and Bouygues Telecom have already activated 8,700 antennas on the 55,000 existing pylons.
Why are we talking about it again?
Because the city of Paris announces an agreement with the operators. 5G worries part of the population for environmental or health reasons. The Parisian environmental group is calling for a moratorium. Socialist mayor Anne Hidalgo chooses to authorize the launch, subject to commitments from operators, such as transparency on the installation of antennas ”,
or recycling of equipment ”.
The text will be submitted to the Paris Council in March.
Can a mayor oppose the installation of an antenna?
Difficult. Of course, he instructs the prior declaration of work. Nevertheless, the Council of State specifies that it is for the government to determine the terms of establishment ”.
So much so that the ecological mayors of Lyon, Grenoble or Bordeaux, opposed to 5G, deplore not being able to stop it. The government tied the hands of local elected officials,
