On the day of reflection: Suspect arrested for buying votes, signal and against PEC member

The police operation took place in the late afternoon of the day for reflection on a signal. A house in the village of Ledenik was searched.

In the car of a 48-year-old man from the village were found BGN 12,000 and about 3,000 euro banknotes and pounds. Also found were 3 notebooks with the names of people who were supposed to have been given the money to buy votes.

The man was detained for up to 24 hours.

Signal also against a member of the PEC in Plovdiv region

The District Election Commission of the Seventeenth Constituency – Plovdiv received a signal by phone alleging that a member of a sectional election commission in the Karlovo village of Sokolitsa is facing pending pre-trial proceedings regarding the buying and selling of votes.

In connection with the signal thus submitted, REC 17 considered that there were no grounds for removal. The reason for this is that Article 66 of the Electoral Code does not specify this very reason as a reason for inadmissibility of candidates for members of sectional commissions. The signal thus submitted was disregarded.

“The day of reflection passed normally, without signals of violations for campaigning. We have information from the section commissions that the ballot papers are being handed over. The process is proceeding normally,” said CEC spokeswoman Rositsa Mateva.

The prosecutor’s office announced that at 10 o’clock this morning there were 612 files for violation of the voting rights of the citizens. The initiated pre-trial proceedings are 69.

The Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office has a duty unit of prosecutors and employees, which summarizes the information received from the prosecutor’s offices throughout the country related to crimes committed and violations of the election process. In each district of the country the work of the established regional interdepartmental units continues, which carry out coordination for counteracting the crimes against the political rights of the citizens.

There is a control center in GDNP for signals for election violations

The Ministry of Interior announced that there is a separate center in the General Directorate “National Police”, which will control the reaction to signals related to violations of the election process in the country.

The control center has prepared six workstations connected to the AIS “Register of emergency calls 112”, corresponding to the zones served by the regional centers of the single telephone number. The set goal is control over all received signals related to violations of the election process, as well as over the entire process of receiving and processing them.

The aim is to track in real time the movement and the way of reaction of the signals coming to the single telephone number. The stations will employ 12 trained employees who will make direct contact with 170 of their colleagues seconded to the regional directorates, SDVR and RU. They, in turn, will be located in operational duty units in order to monitor the process of receiving, registering and processing the signals and to provide appropriate methodological assistance if necessary. Feedback will be submitted to the center in GDNP.

Signals can be received on tel. 112, on the open 24-hour line at the Ministry of Interior 02/9011298, e-mail address: [email protected], as well as on site at the Ministry of Interior and the Regional Directorate
