On the anniversary of the Baren massacre, Uighur Muslims hold a protest in London against China

London: Uighur Muslims are protesting in front of the Chinese Embassy in London. The protest was organized against the Chinese government’s attacks on the Uyghur people.

The protestors said the protest was organized to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Baren massacre by the Chinese Communist Party army against Uyghur Muslims.

Protesters said that on the anniversary of the massacre and repression, they were commemorating all the people killed and missing, and that there was still insufficient international attention or efforts to find solutions to the atrocities committed against them.

“The world should at least now properly intervene in the issue of the Uyghur people. This day should become a day to remember and honor history, at least for future generations of the Uyghur people. And there should be no situation where they have to cry out for justice even then,’ said Rahima Mahmat, executive director of Stop Uyghur Genocide.

Baren protest was a protest by Uyghur Muslims against the communist regime on April 5, 1990. About 200 Uighur Muslims were protesting against Chinese discrimination against them. China responded to the protests by sending in troops. This incident in which many Uyghur men were killed is known as the Baren Massacre.

Uyghurs, an ethnic minority, are reportedly facing severe persecution and human rights violations in China. The Human Rights Commission of the United Nations has reported that the Uyghurs are illegally imprisoned and sexually assaulted. The Human Rights Commission has also alleged that hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs have been imprisoned under the National Security Act.
