Today, on September 8, the official publisher “Latvijas Vēstnesis” publishes the sixth book of scientific commentaries of the Satversme on Chapter II “Saeima” of the Basic Law of our country.
The opening of the edition will take place today, September 8, at 13.00 in the Red House of the Saeima hall, Riga, Jēkaba Street 11. The event can be followed remotely live on the parliament’s website www.saeima.lv a LVportals.lv.
With the publication of this volume, more than ten years of work have been completed, resulting in six large volumes. The total number of pages of the comments on the Satversme is 3712.
” This time the opening of the current book of comments on the Satversme is a special event. First of all, because with this book, 12 years of work have been completed, in which I have involved more than a hundred of the country’s best scientists and experts. Thanks to all co-authors and “Latvijas Vēstnesis”! The basic law of our country, which is extremely laconic, finally has a fundamental explanation in the form of six voluminous volumes. ” The residual value of the project is described by the professor of the University of Latvia, Dr.iur. Ringolds Balodis, who is the author of the idea and the project manager.
The latest edition for the first time in the Latvian legal literature discusses the constitutional regulation that determines the work of the Saeima Presidium and standing commissions, the procedure for convening Saeima sittings, the Saeima procedure round, the place for convening Saeima sittings – Riga and many other issues related to parliamentary work.
The publication is a valuable source of information for practitioners, as well as for all those interested who want to get acquainted with the essence of our country and understand the mechanism of functioning of branches of state power. Comments provide access to selected facts obtained from source research.

The publication “Comments on the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia. Chapter II “Saeima” ”team of authors consists of 34 scientists, experts, lecturers and lawyers. The total number of authors of the Satversme’s comments reaches 95. This is the concluding part of the draft scientific commentary of the Satversme, and it is the eighth – last – commented chapter of the Satversme.
